Top rated
Eye and lip skin is thinner and more reactive than the rest of the face, and both areas show dryness, sun damage and irritation quickly. This category covers eye creams and gels, hydrogel under-eye patches, overnight lip masks, lip balms (including SPF balms) and lip treatments.
Expectations matter. Moisturizing eye creams can soften dryness and fine lines; caffeine and cold patches may temporarily reduce puffiness; and retinoids and peptides have some evidence for fine lines. Dark circles caused by shadowing, pigment or visible blood vessels often respond little to creams. For lips, the American Academy of Dermatology recommends non-irritating balms with ingredients such as petrolatum, shea butter, ceramides, dimethicone or castor seed oil, and suggests avoiding camphor, menthol, eucalyptus, fragrance and flavorings while lips are chapped. Lips also need sun protection: the AAD recommends a lip balm with SPF 30 or higher outdoors.
Our Beauty score for eye and lip care weights results 30%, formula and ingredients 20%, texture and experience 15%, value 20% and community love 15%. Formula rewards gentle, fragrance-free bases and evidence-backed actives, and marks down known lip irritants; texture covers how a product sits under concealer or lipstick; and value compares price per milliliter or gram, since many eye creams cost more per ounce than face creams with similar formulas.

Aquaphor

Laneige
The best-selling overnight lip mask: a smooth, scented balm that leaves lips soft by morning, though it is not the most intensive option.

Summer Fridays
A cushiony, glossy vegan lip balm in a squeeze tube that comforts dry lips; loved for feel and flavors, pricey for the size.

The Ordinary
A budget caffeine and green-tea eye serum that visibly de-puffs for many users, but feels tacky and needs an eye cream on top.

Kiehl's
Kiehl's rich avocado oil eye cream (formerly Creamy Eye Treatment) hydrates dry under-eyes well, but it is pricey and heavy for some.
Buying guide
Hydration and temporary de-puffing are achievable; erasing dark circles usually is not. Look for humectants and emollients for dryness, caffeine for puffiness, and retinoids or peptides for fine lines. If your face moisturizer is fragrance-free and gentle, it may work around the eyes too.
The eyelids are a common site for allergic contact dermatitis. Fragrance-free and ophthalmologist-tested formulas lower, but do not remove, the risk. Patch test new products on the jawline or inner arm before using them near the eyes.
The AAD recommends lip products with petrolatum, shea butter, ceramides, dimethicone, mineral oil or castor seed oil, and suggests avoiding camphor, menthol, eucalyptus, phenol, salicylic acid, fragrance and mint or citrus flavors while lips are chapped. Tingling is a sign of irritation, not that a balm is working.
Lips burn easily and are a site of sun damage. Use a lip balm labeled SPF 30 or higher outdoors and reapply often, especially after eating and drinking. Lip balms with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide are an option if chemical filters bother you.
Hydrogel under-eye patches cool and hydrate for a few hours. Compare price per pair, store them in the fridge if the brand allows, and don't expect lasting change.

FAQ
Not necessarily. Many dermatologists say a gentle, fragrance-free face moisturizer can be used around the eyes. Eye creams are useful when you want a specific texture, a lower-strength retinoid made for the eye area, or ingredients such as caffeine for puffiness.
Usually not completely. Dark circles come from several causes, including thin skin showing blood vessels, pigmentation and shadows from volume loss, and creams address these only modestly. Concealer, sleep, sun protection and, for some people, in-office treatments make more difference. A dermatologist can help identify the cause.
Some balms contain ingredients that irritate chapped lips, such as camphor, menthol, phenol, fragrance or flavorings, and licking your lips makes dryness worse. The AAD suggests switching to a simple balm or white petroleum jelly and stopping any product that burns or stings.
They can be pleasant and are often thicker than daytime balms, which helps lips stay soft overnight. A layer of plain petrolatum does a similar job for much less money, so judge lip masks on texture and value.
