The verdict
Kiehl's rich avocado oil eye cream (formerly Creamy Eye Treatment) hydrates dry under-eyes well, but it is pricey and heavy for some.
Kiehl's Avocado Eye Cream, long sold as Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado, is a water-in-oil eye cream with avocado oil, caffeine, beta-carotene and sodium and copper PCA. It is massaged between the fingertips to break the emulsion and can double as a 10-minute eye mask or makeup primer. Kiehl's reports reduced puffiness and smoother, brighter under-eyes in 4-week testing, and reviewers mainly praise its hydration for dry, mature skin. It is fragrance-free but rich, and $40 for 14 ml is steep.

How it scored
Five factors, weighted for formulas. Here’s our working.
Beauty score out of 10. Brands can’t pay for placement — ever.
Byrdie testers saw better hydration, firmness and radiance and less visible puffiness, in line with Kiehl's 4-week test claims; most other evidence is creator anecdotes.
A rich avocado oil emulsion with caffeine and beta-carotene, free of fragrance, parabens, silicones and mineral oil; it is mainly a moisturizer rather than an active treatment.
The unusual rub-to-break application has a learning curve and some find it slightly greasy, though Byrdie says it absorbs quickly and sits well under makeup.
$40 for 14 ml (the larger 28 ml jar costs less per milliliter) is expensive per milliliter against drugstore eye creams with similar hydration.
A long-running Kiehl's bestseller that Allure and Byrdie both single out as a top eye cream, with years of generally positive creator reviews.
