The verdict
The classic aerosol dry shampoo: rice starch soaks up oil fast for very little money, with a soapy citrus scent and possible residue.
Batiste Original is the brand's best-known aerosol dry shampoo, a rice-starch spray in a 'classic clean' citrus-floral scent that refreshes oily roots and adds body between washes. Creator demos and press roundups consistently treat it as the dependable budget pick. It suits anyone wanting a quick, inexpensive refresh. The trade-offs are an alcohol-and-propellant aerosol formula, added fragrance, and a starch that the brand itself says must be shaken and brushed through to avoid white residue.

How it scored
Five factors, weighted for formulas. Here’s our working.
Beauty score out of 10. Brands can’t pay for placement — ever.
Demos and press roundups agree it absorbs root oil and adds body quickly, though starch can leave a cast if it is not shaken and brushed out.
A simple rice-starch aerosol with keratin, but it relies on propellants, denatured alcohol and fragrance, with no scalp-care extras.
Fast and easy to use with a soapy citrus-floral scent; the brand itself warns that shaking well is key to avoiding white residue.
At $12.99 for 3.81 oz at Ulta it is one of the cheapest well-known dry shampoos, and press lists call it the drugstore classic.
A long-running budget staple that press roundups still recommend; Reddit dry-shampoo threads split between loyal fans and users who dislike the residue.

Sorry, but as a someone with very oily hair, batiste is the only dry shampoo that’s actually worked for me. I’ve tried no exaggeration at least 40 other dry shampoos, and none have come close to batiste … It’s been my tried and true for well over a decade.
I don’t particularly like aerosol batiste, but they now make a non-aerosol version that I like much better. It feels less sticky in my hair in comparison.
Batiste is awful, it leaves such bad residue and makes my hair feel disgusting. I used to “like” batiste until I tried the good stuff lol
