The verdict
The French makeup artists' staple: a rich, fragranced multi-use cream that preps skin beautifully, but its formula is basic.
Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré is a 1950s French moisturizer the brand sells as a 6-in-1 cream: moisturizer, makeup base, cleansing milk, mask, after-shave and after-sun care. Shea butter, beeswax, aloe and soy protein sit in a mineral-oil base, and the brand calls it non-comedogenic and suitable for all skin types. Its reputation rests on how well it preps skin for makeup. The caveats: it has a sweet floral fragrance (the Sensitive version is fragrance-free) and no standout actives for the price.

How it scored
Five factors, weighted for formulas. Here’s our working.
Beauty score out of 10. Brands can’t pay for placement — ever.
Decades of use as a makeup base and creator wear tests back its smoothing, skin-prepping role; evidence for benefits beyond softening and moisture is anecdotal.
A short, old-school formula of shea butter, beeswax, aloe and soy protein in mineral oil; effective as an emollient but fragranced and without modern actives.
Its milky, rich texture is the reason makeup artists use it as a base, and one tube covers six uses from cleansing milk to mask.
At $32 for 2.54 fl oz it sits mid-range per ounce; its multi-use role offsets the cost for people who use it as primer and moisturizer.
A long-standing cult product with nearly 37,400 units sold through its official TikTok Shop listing and steady holy-grail mentions on Reddit.

I've been using Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré for years and it's maybe my HG. … Trust the French pharmacy! Not super expensive, very hydrating, and does well with oily or dry skin.
What’s working for me is the embryolisse moisturizer - total game changer! It takes a min to dry down but once it does it’s awesome under makeup
For deeper moisturizing especially in the winter I would recommend LRP’s Cicaplast Baume or Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré. You can get all of those products in the US but it’s way cheaper in France
I tolerate tret pretty well but it did make me sensitive to other ingredients in skin care products. I have to use a very basic moisturizer with it- right now I’m using Embryolisse lait cream.
Literally everything else I’ve tried breaks me out. Tatcha, Dr Sam’s, Byoma, Embryolisse, Purito, Aestura, LRP are some I can think off the top of my head which just don’t work for me
