The verdict
The go-to fragrance-free repair balm for dry, irritated patches, with 5% panthenol and madecassoside; too rich for some acne-prone skin.
Cicaplast Balm B5+ (sold as Baume B5+ outside the US) is La Roche-Posay's multi-purpose repair cream with 5% panthenol, madecassoside from Centella asiatica, shea butter and the brand's Tribioma prebiotic complex. It is fragrance-free, accepted by the National Eczema Association and labeled for face, body, hands and lips from age one week. Reddit users widely recommend it for wind-chapped, retinoid-irritated or eczema-prone skin. The main caveat: it is thick, and several acne-prone users report breakouts despite the non-comedogenic label.

How it scored
Five factors, weighted for formulas. Here’s our working.
Beauty score out of 10. Brands can’t pay for placement — ever.
Dermatologist videos and many Reddit users credit it with calming dry, chapped and irritated skin quickly, and it carries National Eczema Association acceptance.
Five percent panthenol, madecassoside, shea butter and glycerin in a fragrance-free, paraben-free base is a strong repair formula, though rich enough to clog some pores.
Users describe it as thick and harder to spread than lighter barrier creams; it works best as a targeted or night-time layer.
At $32.99 for 100 ml (with a smaller 40 ml tube) a little goes a long way, though Reddit users note it costs much less in France.
One of the most recommended barrier balms on Reddit and among dermatologists on YouTube, with a consistent minority of acne-prone users reporting breakouts.

La Roche Posay Cicaplast. I’m absolutely obsessed with it. Whenever my skin is extra dry or irritated or having issues, I slather it on and it just works.
I just started using and loving La Roche Posay’s Cicaplast Balm - it’s somehow lightweight yet heavily moisturizing, I wish I had gotten it sooner as it helps with damaged skin barriers and excessive dryness.
I also have Cicaplast B5+, but find it much thicker and harder to spread.
you need stop using the LRP Cicaplast Balm -- that has a lot of shea butter in it and that will clog pores for people who are acne-prone (your skin is). That product is only typically recommended for mature, dry skin that is not acne prone.
the la roche posay cicaplast baume is widely recommended but that broke me out and the avene cicalfate didn’t.
