The verdict
A dark-spot serum pairing La Roche-Posay's new Melasyl molecule with 10% niacinamide; promising brand data, mixed real-world results.
Mela B3 Serum combines Melasyl, La Roche-Posay's multi-patented anti-discoloration ingredient developed over 18 years, with 10% niacinamide. The brand reports that 90% of subjects showed improvement in at least one measure of persistent dark spots after 8 weeks. Dermatologists have reviewed it as a possible alternative to hydroquinone and kojic acid, while creator verdicts range from visible fading to skepticism. It contains fragrance and silicones, which matters for sensitive or fragrance-averse users.

How it scored
Five factors, weighted for formulas. Here’s our working.
Beauty score out of 10. Brands can’t pay for placement — ever.
Brand data reports 90% of 73 women improved on at least one dark-spot measure at 8 weeks, but creator and dermatologist reviews describe gradual, variable fading.
Pairs a new patented anti-pigment molecule with 10% niacinamide and soothing support, though Melasyl is proprietary with mostly brand-published data, and the formula includes fragrance.
A lightweight serum used morning and evening; tested on sensitive skin and allergy tested, but scented.
$44.99 for 30 mL is mid-priced, above budget tranexamic acid or niacinamide serums with similar goals.
Heavily reviewed since launch with interest from dermatologists, but YouTube titles range from enthusiastic to 'beware this viral serum.'

I recently used the la roche posay mela b3 serum. Wow my skin mustache has faded and I’ve been using 2 weeks. My other pigmentation not so much.
There’s no dupe for mela b3 since Melasyl is proprietary from LRP so that might be worth replacing if you did find it helpful for your sunspots and discoloration.
