The verdict
A gentle, well-formulated 0.06% retinal night serum for regular vitamin A users, priced well above budget retinal alternatives.
Crystal Retinal 6 is the middle step of Medik8's retinaldehyde ladder, a 30 mL night serum with 0.06% retinal that the brand recommends for regular vitamin A users. Reddit users recommend the Crystal Retinal line as a gentler retinoid option and as a bridge from retinol toward tretinoin. It suits people who have finished a tube of Crystal Retinal 3 or tolerate retinol well. The main caveats are the $87 price and a formula that includes vanilla and tonka extracts despite 'no artificial fragrance' claims.

How it scored
Five factors, weighted for formulas. Here’s our working.
Beauty score out of 10. Brands can’t pay for placement — ever.
Medik8 cites a 12-week, 33-person study on one tube of Crystal Retinal 6, and Reddit users credit the Crystal Retinal line with anti-aging and clogged-pore improvements, though evidence is mostly brand data and anecdotes.
A meaningful 0.06% retinaldehyde dose in a stabilized, encapsulated base with hyaluronic acid and antioxidants, packaged in an airless tube; the vanilla/tonka extracts are the main formula drawback.
Dosed by pump (2 pumps, about 100 uses per tube), but Medik8 and Reddit users still advise a slow ramp-up and a moisturizer.
At $87 for 30 mL it costs far more than budget retinal serums, such as The Ordinary's, that Reddit users name as cheaper alternatives.
Frequently recommended on r/SkincareAddiction as a top retinal pick, with the strength ladder praised; not every commenter likes the brand overall.

I used Medik8 Crystal Retinal 3 and then 6 before starting tret to get my skin used to retinal, which made the transition to tret much easier
Get her a tube of the CR3 and one of CR6, that way she can slowly integrate it into her routine and move up slowly to avoid any side effects. I had to do 1 per week for the first month, but everyone is different.
I've had success with azelaic acid for dark spots/hyperpigmentation and medik8 crystal retinal for overall anti-aging instead.
Both are trash brands but Medik8 "Crystal Retinal" is probably more stabel and definitely more effective than any retinol product.
