PDRN

Emerging evidence

PDRN is a mix of DNA fragments, traditionally from salmon or trout, used in Korean clinics as an injectable 'skin booster' and now in serums and creams.

What it does

The short version.

In medicine and aesthetics, PDRN is mostly injected or used after procedures, where studies suggest it supports tissue repair and wound healing. In topical skincare the idea is the same, but delivery is the problem: PDRN molecules are large and negatively charged, which limits how far they penetrate, so newer formulas use shorter, processed fragments. Expect hydration and comfort from the formula as a whole; the strongest PDRN evidence is for injected use in healing skin, not for creams on aging skin.

Emerging evidence

A systematic review of randomized trials finds PDRN's effects clearest in tissue undergoing active repair, and most trials involve injections; topical evidence is limited to small and laboratory studies.

How to use it

Getting it right.

Apply serums or creams after cleansing and toning, once or twice daily, followed by moisturizer and daytime sunscreen.

Before you start

Often derived from fish, so it isn't vegan; people with fish allergies should check with a doctor. Clinic injections are a medical procedure and should only be done by a licensed professional.
