The verdict
A fragrance-free ceramide moisturizer with hybrid SPF 30 for everyday mornings; great value, but not water resistant and has octinoxate.
CeraVe AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30 is a daily moisturizer-sunscreen with three ceramides, niacinamide and hyaluronic acid in CeraVe's MVE time-release base. Its broad spectrum protection is hybrid: CeraVe's current page lists homosalate 10%, octinoxate 5%, octocrylene 2% and zinc oxide 8%, while some retailer listings still show the earlier formula with less zinc. It is fragrance-free, oil-free, non-comedogenic and carries the Skin Cancer Foundation's daily-use seal. Caveats: it is not water resistant, and octinoxate is one of the two filters Hawaii has banned.

How it scored
Five factors, weighted for formulas. Here’s our working.
Beauty score out of 10. Brands can’t pay for placement — ever.
Broad spectrum SPF 30 with the Skin Cancer Foundation's daily-use seal and a moisturizer that dermatologist reviewers consistently recommend; it is not built for swimming, sweat or long outdoor days.
Three ceramides, niacinamide and hyaluronic acid are a strong skincare base, but the filter set leans on older US filters including octinoxate, and the 2026 label change means two formulas may be on shelves.
A light, fragrance-free lotion that combines moisturizer and sunscreen in one morning step; whether its zinc oxide shows on deeper skin is a recurring question that creator reviews test directly.
At $19.99 for 3 fl oz it is one of the cheapest ways to get ceramides and SPF 30 in a single product.
A long-standing dermatologist and Reddit recommendation for simple routines, often suggested alongside retinoids.

A light moisturizer with SPF every AM. Ex- Cerave Facial Moisturizing Lotion with SPF 30.
My routine now is a basic Aveeno cleanser, Cerave AM SPF 30, and tretinoin. My skin has never looked better and I no longer get acne.
The fragrance-free formula includes hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and ceramides, so it's as moisturizing as it is protective.
Cons: Can leave a white residue, a bit pricier

FAQ
It is a hybrid. CeraVe's page lists homosalate, octinoxate and octocrylene (chemical filters) with zinc oxide (a mineral filter) delivered as microfine InvisibleZinc.
CeraVe's current page lists homosalate 10%, octinoxate 5%, octocrylene 2% and zinc oxide 8%, while some retailer pages still show 12%, 7.5%, 2% and 3.5%. Check the drug facts on the box you buy.
It contains octinoxate, which Hawaii has banned in sunscreens along with oxybenzone, so it is not marketed as reef-friendly. Lab Muffin notes that coral scientists consider sunscreen a small factor next to climate change.
No. It is not water resistant; CeraVe advises a water-resistant sunscreen if swimming or sweating and reapplying at least every 2 hours.
